IIM Nagpur inaugurates its 2018-20 batch of PGP

SLUG: Students, parents receive a warm welcome, motivated to work towards their goal

IIM Nagpur inaugurated its 2018-20 Batch of Post Graduate Programme (PGP) on July 9, 2018. The inauguration ceremony took place at Chitnavis Centre, Civil Lines, Nagpur, to kick start a week-long Orientation Programme for the PGP 2018-20 students.

At the event, the institute extended a warm welcome to the new students, who were about to embark onto a new phase of their journey, and their parents.

The programme started with a welcome address by Prof Thiagu Ranganathan, Chairperson –Admissions at IIMN. He congratulated the students on their new journey and welcomed them to become a part of the community in IIM Nagpur. “Over the course of the next two years, write a ‘Statement of Purpose’ that is supposed to convince you,” he advised.

Chief guest on the occasion, Ms Yamini Bhat, Co-founder and CEO of Vymo, while addressing the gathering said that most important is to follow your dreams. “One has to stay on the path despite distractions. Remember, what you want to do, where you want to reach. Focus and being particular will eventually help you reach your goal, whether you want to be an entrepreneur, a manager or a leader,” Bhat added.

Ms Yamini Bhat is the Co-Founder and CEO at Vymo, a Bengaluru-based start-up that provides predictive sales analytics solutions. Yamini has led the company in signing up several large clients, including HDFC Bank, expanding in Asia, and raising series-A funding from Sequoia Capital.

She holds a Bachelors in Computer Science & Engineering from BITS Pilani and graduated with ‘Director’s Merit List’ honours from IIM Bangalore.

“One must be aware of industry expectations and the global mindset in order to understand the social, economic, technological and ecological environment so as to develop the skill to address the challenges of a global competition,” Bhat added.

While speaking to the students, Prof L S Murty, Director of IIM Nagpur, stressed on the importance of being a part of the system. He thanked the chief guest for her presence on the occasion and guiding the students.

Prof Murty extended a warm welcome to the new batch of students and their parents. He apprised the students about the institute’s vision. He appreciated the parents for their contribution in their wards’ life. “You all have supported your child until now, and I am sure you will continue to extend your emotional, physical and social support to them. This is a new journey for the students and the parents as well,” he said.

Prof Murty mentioned that IIM Nagpur is determined to contribute to the society by disseminating knowledge which is contextually relevant.

On the occasion, students who ranked first on the basis of academic performance in their respective sections at the end of Terms 1, 2 and 3 were awarded with the ‘Certificate of Merit’. Also, the top 5 percent of the students in the batch were awarded with the Director’s Merit certificate.

This was followed by an address by Prof Deeparghya Mukherjee, PGP – Chairperson, IIMN. He apprised the students and parents about the Post Graduate Programme and its purpose.

Following a short tea break, an interactive session was held for the students with Students Activity Council (SAC).

Orientation Program

A 5-day Orientation Program was organised for the students to apprise them about the different aspect of the academic and campus life in IIM Nagpur.

On the first day of the program, the students were formally introduced to the Post Graduate Program and the PGP manuals were also distributed. The students were informed about the financial aid policy, computer facilities in the campus, IIMN administrative and hostel rules, gender sensitivity, health and counselling services, library facilities and case preparation.

On day-two, students were informed about the case method, career development services (CDS) followed by an interaction with the Alumni.

On day-three, the students were taken to ‘Anandwan’ for an experience of community service, while on day-four, an outbound programme was held in campus by ‘Break Through’.

The Orientation Programme concluded with a reflective workshop to make the best of the two years at IIM Nagpur by Aruna Gopakumar.
